How to make
Chromadepth stuff
link to mainpage

Start with high definition
pictures and use plugins in a
paint program (gimp, photoshop, paint shop pro) to color them to more
chromadepth
friendly colors. Pure red, green ,and blue work best but you might want
to and black to the blue as you can get more range of depth within the
blue than the other colors. Many different plugins work and can
have many
different results. I've posted a plugin gallery for before and
after
pictures to get ideas of what direction to go in .
That is all that is really needed for pictures. For video I use the
pictures
from above or you could use video you made with a camcorder.
Next
down load a program called
ffrend.
Visual jockey can also make and record video clips. You will
want to download some freeframe plugins as well. There is a list on
the freeframe
site . The best ones to grab first are Pete
Wardin's. It has plenty to get you started with.
The instructions for using ffrend are excellent so I won't go over the
use of the program itself. I will go over some of the effect plug insthat
I use and explain how I use them. Freeframe effects can be used with a
lot of video editors. freeframe opengl effects use the video card to
produce effects rather than the cpu so they are faster but there are
not a lot available yet.
Tips
For viewing the best conditions are like a movie theater
everything else is dark but the screen. Other light sources tend
to ruin the full effect.
The further from the screen you are the deeper the depth in the picture
appears.
Use a lot of only primary colors (red, green, blue) as they tend to
get warped and changed yet still stay layered.
Use simple patterns and shapes as the freeframe effects
makes things very complex.
It is easy to see what effect plugins have on simpler colors and
patterns rather than using too complex an image.
Some colors will ruin the layer effect but it is hard to know until you
try.
Adding black to a color moves it deeper.
Adding white to a color moves it to the middle.
Adding a black edge helps to separate the layers so plugins that add
edges are useful.
A blue background with black added seems to give the most depth.
